Merrimack County Savings Bank (The Merrimack) is supporting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central and Northern NH with a $3,500 donation toward their summer camp program. With the funds, the Boys & Girls Clubs will host Junk 2 Funk, a four-day program that empowers youth through creativity, physical energy and individual expression.
“This is an exciting program that not only brings kids together, but helps them recognize undiscovered talents,” said Linda Lorden, President of The Merrimack.
Junk 2 Funk is an artist-in-residence program founded by Jeff Erwin, a master teacher who leads participants down a path of self-exploration with an emphasis kindness, cooperation and making music using instruments made from repurposed objects. Over four days, the kids will work together as a team to prepare a routine which they perform in front of audience on the final day.
“We can’t thank The Merrimack enough for supporting this fun and unique experience for our members,” said Nelia Gibson, Site Director at Penacook Community Center. “Watching the smile on their faces when they play puts smiles on the faces of everyone else in the room.”
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central and Northern New Hampshire operates over two dozen early learning centers and after-school programs, including an early childhood education teaching lab on the campus of NHTI. Our programs welcome over 1000 infants through teens weekly. From developmental assessment and hands-on enrichment to community service programs and nutritious meals, our Clubs provide children and youth with the resources and opportunities they need to thrive.
